About us

The Almanzo Wilder Homestead is the childhood home of Almanzo and site of the book, Farmer Boy, written by his wife, Laura Ingalls Wilder. This historical site features 84 acres of farmland, woods, restored ORIGINAL post and beam constructed farmhouse (1840-1843), reconstructed post and beam framed barns and outbuildings, a museum/visitor center with archives and a gift shop, orchard, picnic pavilion, and nature trail to the Wilder family frontage on the Trout River. The most recent addition is a replica one room schoolhouse.The homestead is located in Burke, NY- not far from Malone and is open to visitors from Memorial Weekend through September.
